Kornegay hit an iron to the right off the tee, on what is hole No. 18 on the course, as the field went off on the back nine. His approach found the deep bunker in front of the green, and with the pin tucked in the back right corner, Kornegay had a tough up-and-down from there.
His first attempt was inches away from being a spectacular shot, but inches is all it takes in golf. The ball rolled back into the bunker and Kornegay was looking double bogey straight in the eyes.
However, the ensuing second attempt out of the hazard rolled just past the hole and Kornegay made the right-to-left breaking 10-footer for bogey.
"That putt was the championship," he said.
